#2 quilt

Finished the top of the second string quilt, minus borders...
Then I was looking for other ways to use up these strips and I came across an octagon so this is what I made so far:
I am done for today... tomorrow will bring more ideas on ways to use strips in a quilt. Stay tuned!

String Quilt #2

This the beginning of the latest string quilt, this time with rectangles of muslin as the foundation. Gotta use this fabric!!!
And here is the Log Cabin sewn together with minor block positions changed ... the more you mess with something, the more you can mess it up!

Scraps and Things

I have bins and bins full of strips and squares so in an effort to use some of them I have made a string quilt and made a bunch of curved Log Cabin blocks.

Here is the String Quilt... I used a pinkish fabric for my foundation and then just used whatever strip I pulled from the pile to make the squares. This will be the Community Service Quilt for my guild next year.

Then I played with the curved Log Cabin blocks I made and came up with 5 variations:

My favorite setting is the second one down... which is your favorite?

Calaveras Cookie Quilt

My friend, Teresa, has been making Calaveras Cookies as wedding favors for her 2 nieces that recently got married. I thought it would make a wonderful wallhanging so I made this and gave it to her for her birthday. Needless to say, she was thrilled beyond words and cannot wait to hang it up on her wall. I even had Day of the Dead fabric left over from a shirt I made for my husband to use on the border and for the backing.

Found this baby quilt in my drawer full of quilts that need to be quilted so I finished it and it will go into the baby quilt stash pile.  Seems like I never can keep quilts in that stash pile... my daughter always finds homes for them!

I have a favorite scrappy quilt that has been named by my friends as "Kathy's Quilt". It is a two block quilt that when put together, has the appearance of curved lines, when all the seams are actually straight.

This is the most recent variation of the quilt:

This is a variation of the original setting:

And here is the original setting of the quilt:

Baltimore Blues Quilt

The small group that meets at my house once a month is doing "Baltimore Blues" from Fat Kat Patterns. This was a 2008 block of the month and I needed something completely different to work on so I picked this quilt to make. It is raw edge machine applique and I am very pleased with how block one turned out!

French Braid Quilt

I go on a quilt retreat twice a year... S'Mores Quilt Retreat at the Hummingbird Music Camp in the Jemez Mountains. My friend, Barbara, taught us the French Braid technique and this is the quilt I made from her kit. Barbara found fantastic variegated fabric... all we had to do was cut it into strips. It made this fabulous quilt!
