It is not the same as the picture I found...
...instead of the fabrics all sewn together, I decided I liked the way it looked to break them up into 3 columns. I think it gives the quilt more of a stained glass look.

Quiltldyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11987092972452637382noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5132568287683658233.post-6578400038044302532013-07-25T16:30:00.001-06:002013-07-25T16:30:18.331-06:00Christmas PlacematsI am having lots of fun making these placemats and having them in my finished stash pile for gift giving when I need something. These are in Christmas fabrics :) Hmmm... might just make a pretty quilt too!

One of our members is an accredited teacher and she got the patterns and rulers for us. I don't know why it's called Twice as Nice when it makes 3 quilts, but that is just me :)
First are some placemats: The red and black placemats are for my daughter, Jessica and the other 2 were samples used in a class I taught at guild.

Now I have 2 tablerunners to show you: The first one is made from leftover pieces from all the 2 1/2" strips I have been using to make quilts lately. I saw this at Barbara's 2013 sew-in. The second one is made from the leftover blocks from two other quilts I made using those same 2 1/2" strips.

It was stained a little and the stains did not come out, but they are less noticeable now that it is quilted and it really has that "old" look. I think she will be very happy with the result.

The quilt was inspired by a picture in the Keepsake Quilting catalog for a quilt named "Prism Pyramids" and the quilt in the catalog was made from pre-cut 2 1/2" strips of hand dyed fabric. I had just gone through my hand dyed fabric before I saw this quilt and had cut 2 1/2" strips from a lot of the yardage I have. I have been playing with 2 1/2" strips in an attempt to use up some of my stash. So when I saw this quilt, I was inspired to create my own. The black sashing was added after I had sewn together the sets of 60 degree triangles into three columns. I have almost enough scraps left over to make a scrappy border around the whole quilt. After I get it quilted, I will bind it in black fabric to finish off the frame and then it will hang in our bedroom. When you enter our house, you will be able to see most of the quilt as you look down the hallway.
Quiltldyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11987092972452637382noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5132568287683658233.post-56919436070522647852012-10-21T15:43:00.002-06:002012-10-21T15:43:48.188-06:00#2 quiltFinished the top of the second string quilt, minus borders...

Then I was looking for other ways to use up these strips and I came across an octagon so this is what I made so far:

I am done for today... tomorrow will bring more ideas on ways to use strips in a quilt. Stay tuned!

Gotta use this fabric!!!

And here is the Log Cabin sewn together with minor block positions changed ... the more you mess with something, the more you can mess it up!

Here is the String Quilt... I used a pinkish fabric for my foundation and then just used whatever strip I pulled from the pile to make the squares. This will be the Community Service Quilt for my guild next year.

Then I played with the curved Log Cabin blocks I made and came up with 5 variations:

My friend, Teresa, has been making Calaveras Cookies as wedding favors for her 2 nieces that recently got married. I thought it would make a wonderful wallhanging so I made this and gave it to her for her birthday. Needless to say, she was thrilled beyond words and cannot wait to hang it up on her wall. I even had Day of the Dead fabric left over from a shirt I made for my husband to use on the border and for the backing.

Found this baby quilt in my drawer full of quilts that need to be quilted so I finished it and it will go into the baby quilt stash pile. Seems like I never can keep quilts in that stash pile... my daughter always finds homes for them!

It is a two block quilt that when put together, has the appearance of curved lines, when all the seams are actually straight.

This is the most recent variation of the quilt:

This is a variation of the original setting:

And here is the original setting of the quilt:
The small group that meets at my house once a month is doing "Baltimore Blues" from Fat Kat Patterns. This was a 2008 block of the month and I needed something completely different to work on so I picked this quilt to make. It is raw edge machine applique and I am very pleased with how block one turned out!

S'Mores Quilt Retreat at the Hummingbird Music Camp in the Jemez Mountains. My friend, Barbara, taught us the French Braid technique and this is the quilt I made from her kit. Barbara found fantastic variegated fabric... all we had to do was cut it into strips. It made this fabulous quilt!
Quiltldyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11987092972452637382noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5132568287683658233.post-87448771477090972011-11-08T15:56:00.002-07:002011-11-08T16:02:25.194-07:00Finished another quilt!This is the first quilt from Barbara's Quilt-in, finished and on the bed.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 142px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCrf3Mavs37zeGStxKtznRZOveKBdVMUovqiLdq2QtD-ez_lu0Fv9shJqztGxBek1Lu1Uy9zu-eGv0eLswG06YoCppj1twYo7YDRpWR7py_CmJzRIzm35heR2x3wRpMLJNZs7pS5DGHw/s200/Quilt-in+4-2011.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5672762829702978658" />
Quiltldyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11987092972452637382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5132568287683658233.post-58860899958300327542011-10-26T14:03:00.006-06:002012-06-30T10:34:52.822-06:00BargelloFinished this Bargello quilt today. It's calles S'mores and is at the Hummingbird Music Camp in the Jemez Mountains of New Mexico and is run by two of my friends, Phoebe and Cindy. The teacher for the weekend was J. Michelle Watts and originally I did not plan to do the project, but being the overachiever that I am, I did bring fabric... just in case.

I did the project...
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 156px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB4MDchCLdvrEyoGC846owj9fxPq4gYuP9I80fbEkbGxwNVEEX5YSRFLRVLpO01e5u92WJ1QT8ZDtdPR49PgYDWLIYmeamk7-yF5EfgKQfLRFYt6zrdGKPSxuBX0ny4c3pDbDuFN9QBw/s200/S'Mores+Sept+2009.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5386267789833624450" />
I also made a couple of quilted wallets, a fabric basket, and some paper pieced quilt squares for a calendar project.
Quiltldyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11987092972452637382noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5132568287683658233.post-24747541557672073342009-09-17T16:20:00.004-06:002009-09-17T16:24:05.102-06:00Been AWOLI just realized I haven't posted for over a month. I have to blame it on Facebook and those darn computer games/applications on there. I have been on the computer and not quilting, which is unusual for me. I do have new things to post and hope to do it tomorrow and thank my fellow bloggers for giving me the kick in the pants I need!

I went on a quilt retreat last weekend so I have a quilt top to show you once I put it on the computer and load it on the page.

Stay tuned :)
Quiltldyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11987092972452637382noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5132568287683658233.post-39901996004669823342009-08-09T14:28:00.005-06:002009-08-09T14:39:43.214-06:00StashbustingI'm giving up on keeping track of what I buy versus what I use. Maybe I'll start that again next year. For now, I will keep on making my quilts and using what I have, but it's just too hard to stop buying fabric! Went to the quilt shop yesterday and bought about 20 yards... but I needed blacks and there were 2 other fabrics at 30% off... so... there you go!

I do have a new kaleidoscope quilt on the design wall... pictures tomorrow!

My husband just called me and there's a big fire to the south of me, about 10 miles. The smoke seems to be blowing east, but will keep an eye on it!
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD5mJHzfKFf3oYWs-cc5MuV-WDqG11qe21iTq1SpeiFmoX_bN8PHclEERxQQA5DJ_TA68z58-gfAiD3KxcV1okgCyrWcCMTFmPkg8FhG2bGhL_sdqLXV00g4QX8aUgbAHv6-KcsjXVFw/s200/fire.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368066353120726322" />
Quiltldyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11987092972452637382noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5132568287683658233.post-61534240073826401532009-07-29T17:03:00.005-06:002009-07-29T17:10:15.834-06:00crittersWe don't see a lot of different critters around the house. Yes, we have rabbits and squirrels. Sometimes we see a deer, hear the coyotes. A bear has been sighted once or twice in the neighborhood, even bobcats. We're at too high an altitude to see roadrunners, but sometimes we happen to catch sight of one. Where is this leading to, you say? Well, a few weeks ago, as Chuck was getting ready to leave for work, I happened to see a chipmunk on the side of the house. Chuck didn't believe me until he rounded the corner of the house and lo and behold... a chipmunk!
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjODhhgHfK5G2J7wRUfDExN3slrILsZ4BAD69Y25vL4s1k_a5porAyUiYHehj4QoBrXatmhBw6wlwkfNQObfiK5r3slr3ScbKXhM4_dltig_E2PiJLXEOOO6GRu2IKvNb6ChgxxWhPktQ/s200/chipmunk.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5364022566441688034" />
He hung around long enough for me to get a picture. My husband was sure I had never seen a chipmunk before, especially around our house, but I had. My parents have a cabin at Mammonth Lakes, California, and there are tons of chipmunks there!
Quiltldyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11987092972452637382noreply@blogger.com2
